Parades, fireworks, and freedom! There is no better time to celebrate our country’s independence than on the Fourth of July. If you’re looking to do something beyond the traditional backyard barbeque, here’s a list of some fun, patriotic festivities going on in the Indy area this holiday.
Star-Spangled Symphony
The Star-Spangled Symphony is a great way to get your dose of patriotism and music all in one. The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra will put on a spectacular show at Conner Prairie that salutes all branches of the U.S. military, capped off by fireworks at the end of the night. You can even watch the concert from 350 feet above in Conner Prairie’s 1859 Balloon Voyage.
Gates open at 4:30 p.m. Tickets for each night are available on the ISO website.
Downtown Freedom Fest
If you’re looking for live entertainment and a family-friendly atmosphere, the Downtown Freedom Fest is a wonderful option for you! Live performances will take place on the Colts’ Stage while kiddos can enjoy games, face painting, and bounce houses in the Royal Pin Leisure Center Kids’ Area.
The festival starts at 6:30 p.m. and takes place at the Indiana War Memorial and American Legion Mall. You can stick around for Indy’s largest fireworks show starting at 10 p.m.
While the event is free, bring your wallet to enjoy all of the delicious food trucks that will be parked on North Street!
July 4th Block Party by Metazoa Brewing Co.
Beer enthusiast? Beer tappings, food trucks, and live music from local artists will be available at the second annual Block Party by Metazoa Brewing Co. Doors open at 1 p.m. on July 4 for 21+ attendees and the night will conclude with fireworks from an outstanding view.
Bonus: There is a dog park on-site, so you’re encouraged to bring your furry friends.
Tickets can be bought in advance for $15 here, or $20 on the day of the event.
Fireworks with the Indians
Much like Independence Day, baseball is an American tradition. Enjoy an entertaining game of baseball as the Indianapolis Indians take on the Louisville Bats at Victory Field. There will be an on-field display of colorful fireworks to conclude the game that ends just in time to also explore the Downtown Freedom Fest right around the corner.
Tickets to see the Indians’ play can be purchased here.
Firecracker 6
Will your gym be closed on the Fourth of July? The Firecracker 6 Run and Walk is a fun, patriotic way to get your workout in for the day! You will start at the historical City Market, travel through Fountain Square, and finish at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument.
When you are finished running, jogging or walking through beautiful downtown Indianapolis, take advantage of the free Metazoa beer, professional race photo, and Firecracker 6 race swag.
Participants can register for this festive race through July 3. Be sure to rock your best red, white, and blue outfit.
